L’Autoportrait (Self-Portrait) de Nicolas Poussin proposes a study of a 17th-century work from the Department of French Paintings. The visual study helps locate the structural lines the artist used to create his décor. Rather than show what he would have seen in the mirror, Poussin considered his image from a new perspective, based on an idealized fiction in which he did not so much portray his physical appearance as his own conception of painting.
