Between 1816 and 1819, the count of Clarac painted a large watercolor, the first depiction of the Brazilian jungle based on observations of the untouched forest on the banks of the Rio Bonito. This book shows the influence the Virgin Forest of Brazil would have on artists like Debret, Martius and Rudengas, who produced the views of Brazilian nature gathered in homage around the work of Clarac.
