A key piece in the Department of Decorative Arts, this exceptional solid mahogany gueridon was made for the countess du Barry in 1774. Its unique design and original décor are the talented work of the best cabinetmaker of the period, Martin Carlin, and the finest miniature painter at the royal manufactory of Sèvres, Charles Nicolas Dodin. This gueridon shows the excellence of French furniture-making and porcelain savoir-faire towards the end of the reign of Louis XV.
