One of the churches of the Egyptian monastery of Bawit, now in ruins, was discovered by members of the Institut français d’archéologie orientale in Cairo, and a major portion of its vestiges were donated to the Musée du Louvre in 1902. The evocative presentation of the church, redesigned in 1997, illustrates the architecture of a Coptic church in the 6th century.
