One of the highlights of the Coptic Egypt exhibit at the Louvre is the reconstruction of a church from the Bawit monastery in Middle Egypt. Abbot Mena, the superior of the monastery in the late 6th century, is depicted on a wood support next to Christ. The Louvre is privileged to have this portrait, one of the oldest known testimonies to iconic art in Egypt.
