One is big, the other is small. But both have an elongated neck, a curious bell-shaped dress and little articulated legs. Both can be found at the Musée du Louvre and belong to the same strange family whose primitivism is appealing and attractive to the modern eye. Who are these ”bell” dolls that we resort to calling “idols” for lack of full understanding? They reflect the beliefs of a people undergoing massive changes, as shown by their shape, their decorative features and similar findings on the subject.
