Although the Louvre has been home to this work of art since 1904, for 350 years it was the main decoration of the Grande Chambre in the Parlement de Paris, the highest court of justice in the kingdom of France. Created in the mid-15th century, this medieval-looking painting is actually the first expression of the capital city’s taste for the new pictorial vision defined in the Low Countries around 1420-1430.
