This book presents some remarkable drawings by Laurent de La Hyre, considered one of the foremost draftsmen of the 17th century. This deeply Christian artist who, unlike many artists of the time, never went to Italy, developed a highly personal and measured style despite the successive influences of the school of Fontainebleau, the Mannerists, and antiquity; to this he added a mastery of perspective and a sensitive perception of nature. Religious scenes predominate, with twelve drawings of episodes in the lives of Christ, Mary, and the saints; there are also two perspective studies, and a Pygmalion inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses.
