The incredibly imaginative Jacopo Ligozzi (1547-1627) was an eclectic artist and a sophisticated draughtsman who was highly appreciated in his time. He devoted himself to naturalistic drawing, provided compositions for engravings, illustrated themes by Dante, and produced a series of moral subjects.
Two sets of highly evocative drawings testify to the appeal of the theme of death for an entire era, but also the personal reflections of a master who engaged in readings and meditation on the Passion of Christ.
