The National Museum was created in the Louvre palace on 18 November 1793. The 200th anniversary of this event was an opportunity to study the situation of museums across Europe during the Age of Enlightenment: beginnings, role of academies, architectural implications, ideological aspects and museum organization are just some of the interesting aspects to enhance our knowledge of a phenomenon that has continued to expand and develop until the present day.
