Johann Joachim Winckelmann was admired by all those during the second half of the Enlightenment who pondered over a possible revival of art and society. His widespread ideas on Ancient Greece became the model to follow. The aim of the eight studies in this collection was to rekindle the interest that Winckelmann’s personality and work deserve and pursue studies on the emergence of a new discipline.
