The Musée du Louvre’s largest painting is Venetian: The Wedding Feast at Cana by Veronese, commissioned in 1562 by the Benedictine monks of San Giorgio Maggiore to decorate their monastery’s refectory.
The painting arrived at the Louvre in 1798, and underwent restoration between 1989 and 1992. X-ray photographs taken at the time have helped deepen our knowledge of the artwork.
